Job Overview
Location: Barrie, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey house with double garage
Problem: Wildlife activity reported in the attic, consistent with squirrel movement
Service: Squirrel removal and roofline exclusion
Visits: Two visits
Summary
Pest Control Barrie completed a two-visit squirrel removal and exclusion service at a detached residential property in Barrie. The issue was traced to multiple soffit intersection entry points. Humane one-way doors were installed to allow squirrels to exit, followed by permanent sealing and inspection to confirm resolution.
Background / Property Context
The property is a two-storey detached home with a complex roofline and multiple soffit intersections. These elevated junctions can be vulnerable to wildlife entry if small gaps develop over time. Work was completed in August, with clear weather and full roof access available.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported early-morning noises coming from the attic and observed squirrel activity on the roof. The concern was ongoing and suggested active attic entry rather than incidental exterior presence.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, our team conducted a full exterior roof assessment. Two separate entry points were identified at opposite soffit intersections on either side of the house. The openings were consistent with squirrel access and showed signs of repeated use.
Photos from the inspection show gaps at soffit-to-roof intersections and exposed voids behind soffit panels. Additional images document roofline areas where exclusion materials were later installed.
Cause Analysis
Soffit intersections can weaken over time due to building movement and exposure to weather. These junctions provide sheltered access points that squirrels can enlarge to reach attic spaces. The presence of multiple roof elevations increased the number of potential entry locations on this structure.
Treatment / Removal
On the first visit, humane squirrel removal procedures were initiated by installing two one-way doors directly over the identified entry points. This allowed squirrels to exit the attic safely while preventing re-entry. All work was completed by our technician Grant as part of a controlled exclusion process.
Exclusion & Repairs
In addition to the one-way doors, approximately four feet of soffit intersections were reinforced using galvanized steel mesh. The mesh was securely fastened to bridge gaps and protect vulnerable roofline transitions. Photos show the mesh contoured to the soffit angles and fastened beneath existing materials to create a durable barrier.
Outcome & Confirmation
At the follow-up visit, the homeowner reported no further wildlife activity. The one-way doors were removed, all entry points were permanently sealed, and the exclusion work was inspected. No signs of continued squirrel presence were observed, and the attic entry issue was confirmed resolved.
Technician Notes
Grant completed a full roof inspection on the initial visit and identified two active soffit entry points requiring separate exclusion setups. All exclusion materials were installed at height using appropriate safety procedures. Final inspection confirmed successful removal and secure sealing with no return activity reported.
