Job Overview
Location: Barrie, Ontario
Structure: Detached bungalow with double garage
Problem: Nocturnal wildlife activity reported in the attic, consistent with raccoon behaviour
Service: Raccoon removal with secondary squirrel exclusion
Visits: 2
Summary
Our team completed a two-visit wildlife removal service after attic activity was reported overnight. Inspection confirmed a primary roofline entry point at a damaged soffit. It was both a raccoon and a squirrel that had entered. Humane one-way doors were installed to allow animals to exit safely, followed by a return visit to confirm activity had stopped and exclusions were secured.
Background / Property Context
The property is a detached bungalow with a complex roofline and attached double garage. Elevated soffit areas and roof intersections created accessible points along the upper structure where wildlife pressure was present.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported repeated nighttime noises coming from the attic space and observed wildlife activity on the roof. The concern was potential damage to the structure and continued animal presence inside the attic.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial exterior roof inspection, a soffit section was found pulled open, creating a clear entry into the attic. Activity was consistent with raccoon use of the opening. While preparing for installation, a squirrel was also observed using the same access point, indicating shared entry by multiple species.
Photos taken during the inspection show an upper roofline corner with exposed soffit material and an open cavity leading into the attic space.
Cause Analysis
Raccoons commonly target soffit returns and roofline corners where materials can be pulled back for access. Once compromised, these openings may also be used opportunistically by smaller wildlife such as squirrels. The elevated location and shelter provided by the attic made this entry point attractive.
Treatment / Removal
Humane, non-lethal removal methods were used. One raccoon-sized one-way door and a secondary squirrel-sized one-way door were installed at the same soffit opening to allow both species to exit while preventing re-entry. Work was completed during April, outside of raccoon baby season, and winter conditions were not a limiting factor.
Exclusion & Repairs
Following confirmation that activity had stopped, the one-way doors were removed on the second visit. The entry area was sealed and screened to restore the soffit opening and prevent future access. The surrounding exclusion work was inspected to ensure it was secure and intact.
Photos from the follow-up visit show wire screening and secured materials covering the former entry point along the roofline.
Outcome & Confirmation
After the one-way doors were installed, the homeowner reported no further wildlife activity. On the final visit, our team confirmed the attic remained quiet, removed all temporary devices, and verified that the exclusion was holding. No additional wildlife issues have been reported since completion.
Technician Notes
The service was completed by our wildlife technician, Grant. A full roof inspection was performed on the initial visit to identify all potential access points. Although additional repair work was discussed, the homeowner chose to proceed only with the removal and exclusion at the primary entry point.
