Job Overview
Location: Barrie, Ontario
Structure: Detached bungalow with double garage
Problem: Nocturnal wildlife activity in the attic consistent with raccoon presence
Service: Humane raccoon removal and roofline exclusion
Visits: 3 visits
Summary
We responded to reports of nighttime attic noise at a detached bungalow in Barrie. Our inspection confirmed raccoon entry at the roofline. The work involved humane one-way door installation, targeted exclusion at vulnerable roof components, and a final confirmation visit to ensure the home remained wildlife-free.
Background / Property Context
The property is a detached bungalow with multiple rooflines, soffit intersections, and roof vent penetrations. These features can create access opportunities for raccoons if gaps or weakened materials are present.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported ongoing nighttime activity above the living space, raising concern about raccoons entering the attic through the roof or soffit areas.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial exterior roof inspection, our team identified the primary entry point at a soffit intersection. Additional risk areas included roof vents and adjoining soffit runs. No winter weather limitations were present, and timing was outside of raccoon baby season, allowing for standard one-way exclusion procedures.
Cause Analysis
Raccoons commonly target soffit intersections and roofline transitions where materials meet and movement can create small gaps. Repeated climbing activity and leverage at these junctions can widen existing weaknesses, allowing attic access. Nearby tree cover and roof geometry increased accessibility to these areas.
Treatment / Removal
A humane one-way door was installed at the confirmed soffit intersection to allow the raccoon to exit without re-entry. This approach ensured non-lethal removal while preventing continued attic access. The work was carried out by our trained wildlife technician in accordance with standard humane wildlife control practices.
Exclusion & Repairs
As part of the approved work scope, we completed the following exclusion measures:
- Installation of a galvanized steel one-way raccoon door at the primary soffit intersection
- Installation of eight galvanized steel roof vent covers
- Sealing of approximately eight feet of soffit intersections using galvanized steel mesh
On a subsequent visit, a new soffit breach was observed where a raccoon had forced entry at a separate location. This additional repair was documented, and a quote was provided; however, the homeowner chose not to proceed with further work at that time.
Outcome & Confirmation
On the final visit, no further wildlife activity was reported. All one-way doors were removed, sealed, and the completed exclusion work was inspected. No additional entry points related to the original service area were observed, and the attic remained inactive following completion.
Technician Notes
The initial inspection and exclusion work were completed by Grant, who confirmed the primary entry location and oversaw the installation of all roofline protection measures. Follow-up inspections verified successful raccoon removal and effective exclusion at treated areas.
